Common Chromebook Problems & Solutions
1. Chromebook Won’t Turn On
Problem: Chromebook looks completely off, no lights or screen.

Make sure it’s plugged in with the correct charger.

Hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds, then try turning it on again.

If the battery light doesn’t turn on, try a different outlet or charger.
2. Slow Performance
Problem: Chromebook is running slowly or freezing.

Restart your Chromebook.

Close any tabs you aren’t using
3. Can’t Log In
Problem: Chromebook says your password is incorrect.

Double-check Caps Lock isn’t on.

Make sure you’re typing your school email address correctly.

If you still can’t log in, ask your teacher—your password may need to be reset.
4. Screen is Frozen
Problem: Chromebook won’t respond at all.

Hold the Refresh key (⟳) and tap the Power button to force a restart.
5. Sound Not Working
Problem: No sound from speakers or headphones.

Check volume in the bottom right corner.

Make sure headphones are plugged in fully.
-
Test with and without headphones.

Restart the Chromebook.
6. Updates Needed
Problem: Chromebook keeps asking to restart for updates.

Click the clock → Settings → About ChromeOS → Check for updates.

Restart when prompted.
7. Keyboard or Touchpad Not Working
Problem: Keys or touchpad don’t respond.

Restart the Chromebook.

Check nothing is stuck under the keys.
-
For touchpad: press Esc several times or hold Refresh + Power to reboot.
8. Chromebook Won’t Charge
Problem: Battery not charging even when plugged in.

Make sure you’re using the school-issued charger.

Plug into a different outlet.

Check for any damage to the cord.

If it still won’t charge, bring it to Technology Coordinator

Common Teacher Related Issues
1. Smart Panel Not Displaying What is On My Laptop
Problem: The Smart Panel is not displaying what is on my laptop screen, only the desktop background is showing.
- Hold down the Windows key and P on your keyboard.
- Use the arrow keys to scroll to Duplicate or Mirror.
- Press the Enter key to confirm your choice and then press ESC key.
2. Sound is not working correctly
Problem: Sound is playing through laptop speakers not Smart Panel
- Click on the speaker icon in your taskbar.
- Click on the > icon next to the speaker to select sound output.
- Click on the speakers related to your smart panel. It should not be on realtek those are your laptop speakers.
